Best place to rent in burbs?

Asked by Allan Dyson, Camarillo, CA Fri Jun 20, 2008

Hello all,

Moving to P-town soon and looking to rent to get an idea of some nice areas where we may want to buy. What are the best and safest places to rent in the metro area? Also what are the main differences between the southern Gresham, Milwaukie, and Beaverton? Thanks!

For easy access to town, the nicest overall environment tucked up against the Tualatin Mountains, award winning schools, parks and neighborhood transit and shopping centers, access to Nike, US HWY 26, Intel, all the Silicon Forest Jobs, and a 7 minute back roads drive to the heart of the City of Portland..... Bethany and the rest of the 97229 zip.

Taxes in Portland for property are at about $26 dollars per thousand or 2.6%. A $400,000 dollar home will run you up to $10,000 per year in property taxes. The schools are loosing 5% a year in enrollment and are approaching a 50% drop out rate.

Just to the West of Portland in this area taxes are $15 dollars per thousand and the schools are gaining 2-5% per year. Even if you do not have kids that brings in new people which spurs on demand. If you want action and lots of it move downtown. But a lot of us like being in this community and having that easy access when we need it. Portland is a Cultural Wonder but not the best place to live by any means.

The 97229 is a Portland Mailing zip but not in the city limits!

Hope that helps;

Hi Allan
Downtown Portland is safe so as most of the suburbs, perhaps you would like close in SW Portland, or Beaverton. To answer the question one needs to know more about your needs and expectation.
Beaverton is in SW area of town and Milwaukie is SE and Gresham is E of Portland. Beaverton is within 8-12 Min of Portland Milwaukie is within 7 to 10 Min of Downtown Portland and Gresham with 15-20 Min of city center, considering no traffic Nike town is in Beaverton, Milwaukie is on both side of 99E and close to the river and Gresham is its own thing. Much to say about all 3 places.
I hope this would be of any help feel free to contact me if I can be any more assistance.
