As I walk my dog every Sunday morning I take the OPEN HOUSE signs and throw them in the bushes.

I am tired to walk around these signs and it seems to help the houses on the market longer. Perhaps I am responsible for keeping the prices low? Lately I noticed there are less and less signs in my area. Is someone helping me?

Those signs cost money so the agent may not be able to replace them as yet.

Hmmmm....maybe you are winning the battle but losing the war? If the homes sit longer, than the agents do more open houses...so the cycle feeds itself. I think you should focus on your mutt, and less on the signs! lol

you should report signs that are blocking pathways to the DPW who apparently will fine $300 per occurrance. If they're not blocking your path and you just don't like them... well then your name is certainly appropriate :)

Wow. I have the exact opposite reaction when I see open house signs.

When I see them I get excited to have the opportunity to see what houses in my neighborhood look like on the inside, and to find out what they're going for.

The signs are like clues to little gems of discovery and exploration!

And you would do this because . . . WHY?

Are you hoping to buy, but can't and thinking to keep the market down? I just don't understand your reasoning.

What do you do for a living? If someone were to prevent you from getting further in life, would you appreciate it?

You need to see a therapist and work through your anger issues, or contact a good agent and mtg lender and let them help you OWN a home so you would feel more connected.

Either way, much luck!

When you start paying $15,000 to $20,000 a year in Property Taxes, you might have an argument to keep the side walks clear...even then there are bigger things to worry about in this world.

This doesn't merit a response. This fool has a feeling of importance when really he knows that he doesn't matter.

Think of it like this bitter renter. One day you too will own a home (maybe) and you may, one day, wish to sell your home. You will either one...sell it yourself, which many homeowners find more difficult than they thought (especially in today's market) or two...pay out a commission and have a Realtor sell your home for you. Well, if you decide to pay the commission you will come to expect certain things from your agent. You will want your agent to do everything possible to sell that home...advertising, open houses, listing it on several sites, word of mouth, etc...How would you feel if you had to pay out several thousands of dollars only to find that no one is coming to your open house because someone is rude enough to throw the sign in the bushes because they're too lazy to walk around them? I find this a minor inconvenience and especially in todays market you need every edge you can get. Well, imagine not being able to sell your home and you have to move no matter what so you rent your home out. Well, there's another renter in the neighborhood which doesn't look good to new home buyers. They don't want a neighborhood filled with renters because renters normally (not saying YOU) do not take care of the property as a homeowner would. So, if you owned your home and you have renters in the neighborhood who don't care what do you think would happen to your property value? It would go down. You need to realize that not everyone is out to inconvenience you. Call the agent, as been suggested in other posts, explain that you have to take two extra steps to get around the signs (even though you're using more energy to throw the signs) and would they please try to post the signs out of the way. Now, with that said, I find it hard to believe that they are posting the signs on the sidewalk. Are you walking, perhaps, on someone else's property and that's the only safe route you can take when walking? If that's the case then you could be trespassing. Think about your dog also, is he/she being tangled in the sign and it's an inconvenience for you so you take the sign down even though your dog maybe the one trespassing on the grass. Usually signs have metal prongs that stick into the ground and you can only do that if its soft (not concrete). You're not right for taking down the signs. It's not your neighborhood...you're just a renter.

Dear Bitter Renter,

How hard is it to walk l foot around a sign? Trashing someone's personal property is not a good idea. If you feel the sign is in a bad spot, go and ask the Realtor to move it to a better part of the corner or closer to the home. Most will gladly comply.

How sad that you want to stop someone else from finding a particular property he/she might want to purchase. Instead of being bitter, get involved. You might want to join Middle Polk Neighborhood Association that meets at It's A Grind (Washington & Polk) or the Russian Hill neighborhood group.

Also Bitter Renter, you just might be able to afford a condo or TIC.... Talk to a mortgage broker or your banker about First Time Buyer programs. The City has one too....go tohttp:// www.sfgov.org and check out theirs. And many of the new complexes are selling BMR units (below market rate) as part of the City's program. Who knows? You just might qualify! A realtor can help you navigate through all the requirements.

Try to find a positive way to deal with your anger!

Good luck!

Are the signs in your way? Why don't you pick up the phone and call? The Realtor(s) who placed the signs do not know if their signs are in they way, or the displaced or missiing signs result from child pranks or disgruntled neighbors. A quick phone call might be a better solution to your problem.

Trish.......The type of HOA fees to which you might refer that are common in Houston are not common to other areas. From what I understand, many communities of Single Family Homes in Houston have a small HOA fee for upkeep of public sidewalks or landscaping corners or midways of public land, and the HOA has no other purpose or function. Is that true? Is that what you meant by HOA fees? Or did you think that Bitter Renter lives in a private community with a HOA that oversees privately owned lands?

Either way....great comment about picking up after the dog...and well stated that someone is paying for these signs.

To Bitter Renter,

You heard of Karma? Or the Golden Rule. We, agents, are providing services to make homeownership easy
for you. I am just appalled that you will do something like this because it takes money and effort to put up those signs. Lucky for you, you get a regular paycheck but we do not get paid until we completely sell a house. I hope you will grow up SOON and be a productive member of our society.

Bitter Renter. Your actions speak louder than your words. You say you are not angry. Who are you kidding. Your screen name says it all and your actions go along with it. My suggestion would be that you call the agent whose sign obstruct your way and ask them to display their signs in a way that does not interfere with your ability to use the sidewalk. Real estate agents aim to please and have no intention of making your Sunday walk an obstacle course. If someone called me about one of my open house signs, I'd apologize and find a better way to display my sign next time or I'd use open house signs that take up less space. There is a way to find a solution to the problem that you and the agents can live with.

and really you are in a good position
renting was the smart choice in the housing bubble
unfortunately, you neighborhood seems to be filled
with people that thought housing prices go up forever

You are a renter. Not a homeowner. As a homeowner you have certain rights because you pay for those rights in your HOA fees! What is your reason for being so mad at signs in a yard that does not belong to you? I can understand a homeowner who pays taxes on the property MAYBE getting mad at the signs, but sorry, I do not think you have the right to do this. Some one had to pay for those signs!

more importantly:
ARE YOU PICKING UP AFTER YOUR DOG?
