Just happened to read the article contained in the link below and am happy to report that my home town and primary service area of Gwinnett county is included in the state of Georgia's efforts to develop wireless blanket.
Yep, Mountain View Ca, my town, was one of the first to receive this free service thanks to Google which happens to be based here. I can tell you if you are inside your house or another structure the connection is very slooow. Here you will see many people lounging around parks and coffee shops with their laptops and other devices surfing away. You can see the coverage area by following this link. http://wifi.google.com/city/mv/apmap.html
Here are a few more links to help you find the wifi hotspots in your area:

Here is a website I found ... Not sure if this helps out at all (for Colorado)
http://www.wififreespot.com/co.html
It lists places for all states, but not general communities.
In our area, I know that West Sacramento wired most of their city for free wi-fi in hopes of keeping business in their area.
Google wired (wirelessly) Mountain View, CA, it's home town. That's a great service if you're outdoors. If you get too much inside a building you need a booster which sells for less than $100. All of San Francisco is very soon to be wireless too. Now what do we do with all this is the question.
Vail, Colorado offers town-wide, high-speed wireless service. 1 hour is free during a 24 hour period with varying paid rates beyond that. Residents of the community are offered a discounted annual rate.
Downtown Long Beach CA is a wireless hot zone. For further information see attached link:
Yes, in Lone Tree a suburb of Denver the Bluffmont community (built by Toll Brothers) is offering wireless included with the HOA. This is a very popular feature. I don't know why more communities don't offer it!
We are seeing a lot of interest by local communities in offering wireless as a community service. In the Southern CA..South Bay, Hermosa Beach was one of the first communities to set up a trial run for residents. LAX is also considering having wireless connectivity throughout the entire airport . I believe this will be a trend we will see in most cities within 10 years.
