We just moved to Bridgeport, 3 months ago. I was sceptical about moving to the area but now that we are there I am very happy we have decided to live in Bridgeport. It is definetely going though a revitalization. The Main St is getting a facelift. Many of our neighbors are like us, married without children or with small children who bought an old house to fix up. You will wake up on weekends to construction noises as Bridgeport is quickly being rennovated. Bridgeport has a awesome park that is in easy walking distance from most of the town and its location to the surrounding areas is great. I recommend Bridgeport for anyone looking to buy a home that will definetely increase in value as the area improves!
I lived in Bridgeport for 11 years, but on the "wrong side of the tracks", near the river. After 11 yrs. when I sold & made next to nothing on my home which was purchased brand new & in excellent condition. There are some lovely sections of B-port & the run down area is from 1st to 4th street, literally on the other side of the tracks. However, there has been a redevelopment surge recently, with property on the rise. In another 10 yrs, this may be thee area to live in, similar to what happened to Conshohocken and Manyunk...I was just there & sold my home at the wrong time (2002). It is a relatively safe area but my side of the tracks was lower middle class, a lot of rentals, litter & middle of the night awakenings from intoxicated neighbors fighting out on the street (being brutally honest here). There is a proposed development by O'Neill developers of a hugh townhouse/condo complex right at the riverbank...this will be inhabited by young professionals, I'm sure, & will be good for the community. However, with the fire that just happened in the Conshohocken complex built by the same developer, I'm wondering if that will hinder or slow down the Bridgeport development. Bottom line, Bridgeport is a fine middle class town to live in, just stay on the right side of the tracks.

I have lived in Bridgeport for 3 and a half years after moving from the city to be closer to work and away from the wage tax. I have no children. The best things about Bridgeport are its location, the reasonable cost of living, and the school district. Plus its relatively safe. Its a great place to buy a starter home and save money to be able to eventually move into a more expensive area. Prices should go up significantly in the next 5 to 10 years because of the location and fewer people want long commutes. If raising children, be careful what street you are on and look at the whether the neighbors are owners or renters. The borough is slowly getting more upscale but there is a long way to go.

I'm thinking you're looking for honesty, so here it is. Please don't confuse Bridgeport with King of Prussia, there are many differences, including how nice the areas are. King of Prussia is the nice area. Bridgeport borders Norristown and King of Prussia and has more in common with not so nice part of Norristown, but either way, no, I wouldn't consider it the best place to raise a family. Its a bit rundown, many multi-family units, more crime than the general surrounding area (nowhere near as much as in the city though), and just generally speaking, not nearly as nice. I think the best part of Bridgeport is its school district (Upper Merion). So, your children will get a good education, but I can't say I think the actual Bridgeport area is ideal.
Nicole,
I am from Collegeville and we are in the Methacton school district which is excellent. And it's a nice community. Other family-friendly areas are Skippack, Phoenixville and Upper Providence.
Nicole,
I am selling my house and we are located right behind Bridgeport. We are littleraly up the street in walking distance. We are actually considered King Of Prussia. If you are interested please take a look at it I have a website http://www.231hollydrive.com.
Good luck
Lisa
Nicole,
Bridgeport is a town in Upper Merion township. Closely situated to Plymouth Meeting, Conshohocken, King of Prussia, and Norristown. The town used to be industrial, but is slowly being gentrified. Easily accessible to major routes and rail.
