Martin,
Go to the Mecklenburg county website and then the register of deeds. Then you will have to go to the actual document viewing section. These are usually pdf scans of the originals. You will have to know either the grantor or grantee's names. Click on the part where you want to view the document as Jonathon said it will show the mortgage bank. Now this will be the original. In some cases you will need to search the UCC filings to see if they refinanced so the original deed may not have the right bank on there. And if you are looking because of a foreclosure you will want to see if they had a possible second mortgage to see if there are additional liens on the property.

you can search out the deed and it should reveal the mortgage company as well as any liens.
