I think you are talking about a home that is in pre-foreclosure. If that is true, the tentative sale date is the date that has been scheduled for the sheriff's sale. This date is tentatively scheduled because the owner of the property can bring his payments current, sell the property, etc before that date and the sale will be cancelled.

When the home is suppose to go to settlement (day which ownership is transfered).

So if you are talking about an agreement of sale, here in PA, we have it written "settlement on or before xx/xx/xxxx"

So once the deal is accepted and we move forward then you schedule settlement.
