The question is did you sign the not or mortgage. If you did not you might be able to fight the banks and credit report companies. However, if you did sign the mortgage you will have to wait to purchase a house and your credit score will be hit 200-300 points. Check the fnma underwriting guidelines

Since the foreclosure is showing on your credit report, almost all lenders will require you to wait 2-3 years before they can consider lending to you on another loan. I recommend you visit a reputable lender in your area, explain your situation and ask that lender to confirm. Additionally, ask the lender for expert advice on what you can do to improve your credit the most and assure you will be able to obtain financing again as soon as possible.
