This sounds like a classic scam artist that bilked you out of your money. They're all over. Never, I repeat NEVER do business with any company that asks you for some sort of fee, or who says they'll take over your mortgage. They're out to screw you. You can read more about this here:

Hi Sacha,

I am sorry to hear about your situation. I agree with my colleagues that the best advice will be to contact an attorney. If you don't have money I would suggest looking in to the free legal services as already mentioned by my colleagues. I wish you the best in resolving your situation.

There are so many scams out thee that target so many people. Unfortunately people in need of financial help are not immune. They claim to provide services to those in need and only take money form them. Debt help and mortgage help has received so much attention these days and these people are targets for quick money.

The attorney general has been investigating companies that claim they are part of the Hope program and are not. they have similar names.
For instance here is a company in Cherry Hill and Bellmawr NJ that has some press :
There are phone numbers also that will provide so aistance in the articles.
