You can contact an buyers agent that understand the process and access to the information or check the public records in the court house or contact a service like realt trac or foreclosure.com. It depends on what you want and what you will do with the information when you receive it.

If you are going to purchase a pre-foreclosure property and do not know the process, you need to get a buyers agent that knows the process. I have seen people make big mistakes and for no reason because the buyers agent will not cost you anything. The seller will be paying the cost for you being educated and assisted.

Good Luck

Are you looking to purchase a home that is in pre-foreclosure?

If so, you should ask a Realtor in the area where you would like to purchase for a home that is in a short-sale status.

Banks are not in the Real Estate business, so contacting the bank directly to purchase is a waste of time. When a bank has foreclosed on the property, they give it to a Real Estate to sell as an REO property.

You can purchase (through one of the companies that are constantly hawking on the radio and print ads), lists of homes that have lis pendens (notice of impending court action). That doesn't necessarily mean that the home is for sale. Some of the homeowners will become current, or do a loan modification. Some of these homes are already listed with a Realtor, and some of these homes have been abandoned and are vacant. Many people purchase these lists thinking they will be able to puchase a home on the list for the amount of the judgement and get frustrated when they find out that is not the case. The money you save you can put towards new drapes in your new home.

You can contact your local realtor or a realtor that focuses strictly with pre-foreclosures and foreclosures.
They can give you a list of foreclosures in your area.

If you are not working with a Realtor, now is the time to consider using one-- if the seller has representation and so should you. What kind of information are you looking for, without specifics tough question to answer.
