Simple. Link up with a Realtor in Brooklyn and ask them to provide a list of available short sale listings.

Dear tjweiner:

You can take the free trial on RealtyTrac and cancel before the free trial period ends. You can also have a real estate agent that specializes in short sales help you find them. Lastly I suggest you Google "short sales Brooklyn" or any other search term you think may help., You will be surprised with the amount of information you can get by doing that.

Why is it that you are looking for a short sale? If the answer is because you believe you can get a better deal, then maybe what you really need is simply a good deal. If that is the case there are many ways to find them besides short sales. You are really looking for a motivated seller!

If I can be of further assistance, please let me know. Good luck!

Good afternoon tjweiner,

Your best bet is to identify and begin working with a great local Realtor in your chosen shopping area. Your Realtor will be happy to do the legwork for you to identify properties that meet your needs and price range. Especially with regards to short sales you want an experienced Realtor who can tell the "good" from the "bad" and the "ugly."

Realty Trac basically lists ANY properties where owners are behing in payments. These are not necessarily Short Sales or Foreclosures. Get yourself an Agent(ABR)/Broker and start your search would be my best advice!

Buyer's who look into short sale purchases they are normally represented by a real estate agent. This type of sale, however, does call for an advocate working hard on a buyer's side. Not only does a short sale require buyers and sellers to reach an agreement, but the banking institution must also approve the transaction.

Since short sales are listed with brokers, for free and accurate information consider working with an agent of your own. Keep in mind that not all short sales may be such great bargains, therefore don't overlook some traditional sales. If purchasing with a mortgage, be aware that a mortgage pre-approval letter is required in order to determine your price range and for any offers to be taken seriously.
