Kay,
According to what process the home is in and whom actually owns the property is according to how you would make a bid. The reason I would suggest a Realtor is we have access to either a written contract to be written with your interest being protected, or if it is an online bid, we have access to bid as well.
A few years ago I had a client that lost a home through bid select because they did not know the process to complete even after they won the bid. As a buyer you would not be paying the buyer's agent fees, and agents are aware of what to look for and how to protect your best interest.
In any forclosure or bank owned property the seller is listing the property WHERE IS AS IS, you need professional representation. If you need assistance with anything I am just a phone call away. Best wishes in your home search, and welcome to the lovely Upper Cumberland.
Kay
If you are asking about Tax sales then I suggest contacting and asking your County Mayor here...

If you are asking about Gov/Bank Foreclosures then I would suggest looking at the Gov/Banks sites created to provide that information to the Public for Free, sites like..
http://portal.hud.gov/portal/page/portal/HUD/topics/hud_homes
http://www.homepath.com/ ... http://www.wamuproperties.com/ ... http://www.countrywide.com/purchase/f_reo.asp
The links to these sites and the other Bank/Gov sites can be found here...

Good luck, Dunes
Hello Kay, If you are interested in a HUD owned property, you must bid their properties online through an approved agent. I am approved through HUD and experienced in placing bids and closing HUD owned properties (infact, I closed one last week). Please contact me and I'll be glad to work with you. Thanks, Linda
Is the home listed? Is it a foreclosure?
If the home is listed, you can write up an offer and present it to the listing agent or get a buyers agent to do it for you. If it's a foreclosure, you can try contacting the bank.
