Jan,
It will be a bit difficult since you are out of town but, you will have to go to a few different websites. Now of course using a realtor in Blowing Rock, Boone or Banner Elk they could search for you through the MLS. Below is the HUD website which will give you the links to all the government websites and what they have in a particular area. The others it will be going to individual websites and county tax websites. The pay websites have information like Realty Trac but, I have found that theirs are usually not kept up with and when someone calls about something that is on that website it is usually already gone. So you can try the website Gene put up below and the HUD site or get a local realtor. If you need one I can refer you to one of our top agents in that area. I grew up just down the mountain in Lenoir so I know Blowing Rock and the surrounding areas pretty well but, I just don't live there anymore.
Have you tried the Trulia foreclosures search? The results come from Realtytrac (a paid site), but it gives you the basic information.
The information is also listed in our MLS systems. Any Realtor who is familiar with how to search these properties can help you. There are a couple of different key words that can be typed in to get the search info needed. Let me know if you need help finding a qualified Realtor to help you. The process can be quite involved. Good Luck,
Beth
I found that the best way to find out about foreclosure property is the local banks and mortgage companies. Give them a call. I'm sure you'll be surprised at how helpful they can be.
If you don't want to pay for the information, the best spot for you is the local county clerks office. When a home falls in to foreclosure the lender files a legal proceedings against the property. This lis pendens is a part of public record and with a little leg work you can find out about all the foreclosures in your area for little more than your time. Good luck and happy hunting.
