When should we stop paying our HOA fees in Virginia?

Asked by Rt2152, Virginia Mon Dec 7, 2009

We are having to foreclose on our condo/townhouse in Virginia. We are about a month past due, we are over $150,000 upside down, and are also needing to move out of the area immediately for safety reasons. Is short sale an option? If so, how does that work. We already have found a place to rent and are moving in soon. We are already past due on our HOA fees ($135 a month) and have a payment agreement with them for $150 ($15 towards past due) a month which has been paid since October. At what point should we stop paying our HOA fees?

Hi again,

I'd be happy to explain the short sale process to you. It's not a short explanation though. When can you talk on the phone or meet in person. What are you located?
