The short sale house we place an offer went into sheriff sale... Why can't we be released from our offer contract?

If I were you I would consult my realtor or a real estate attorney. You have a contract with the seller. Once the house is foreclosed that seller is no longer the owner the bank is.

This is so confusing. We offered asking price, after 4 months and 3 appraisals the bank asked 12k over asking price. We said we don't have that kind of money so we told negotiator that we would walk away so she told us to wait because she would talk with investors in our favor, in their favor as well. Sheriff sale was today. Our realtor couldn't get a hold of negotiator or sales agent. Yet, we said we wanted to break free and we are told we have to wait till the end of our contract. Why?
