What price do you consider reasonable? Based upon your comments, I presume that your present home is actively for sale, either listed with a Realtor or with a FSBO yard sign. If the former, have you asked your Realtor to assist you with finding a home in Oakwood? If the latter, may I suggest that you seriously consider hiring a full-time, experienced Realtor to serve as your Buyer's Agent? If you would like help finding a home your best bet is to ask one REALTOR to help you. We, like doctors and lawyers are professionals. We make our living helping people find homes. Because we want to know that we will be paid for our efforts we usually work with buyers when they are committed to working with us, by stating in writing that we are representing the buyer's interests.

Let me give you an example. Let's say I have a client, Mr. Jones (someone with whom I have a written agreement to help purchase a home) and I get a phone call from you but you are not willing to work with only me, because you feel your best interests are to work with whomever has a listing to show you. Well since I know that more than likely if I spend my time with Mr. Jones and other people like him I will likely be paid for my efforts, but if I am working with people who are customers (people with whom I do NOT have a written agreement) I will more than likely spend my time showing homes to lots of people but not actually making any money.

Most agents will work very hard for their clients, becuase they know that in the end they will be paid but working with customers will in all likely hood endup being a waste of time.

I say all of this to say that if I or others come to you with one or two homes that we have listed but you will not allow us to take you out and see other homes then we realize that it is a waste of time on our part.

In the end, you will probably be given all sorts of advice here, but your best bet is to find a good realtor (of which I am one) with whom you will work exclusively to find a home. That agent will work his rear end off for you, but a listing agent who represents the seller will only make sure that their client (the seller) will be represented and have their interests served best. While the listing agent must treat you fairly and honstly, he will not BY LAW be able to REPRESENT you and make sure you get the right house at a fair price to you.
