Is their such thing as govenment assistance for people who are about to face forclosure on their home?

Their are companies on the internet that are offering, for $2,500.00 to be able to get our payments lowered on our first and second in order to keep our home. They have attorneys who will notigociate with the banks who carry the loans. Would this be wise to go through someone like like this? Thank you

Hi Nancy,

I second Cindi's advice. As Keith said, there are legitimate companies out there, but you should always try to deal with your bank first. It is in your bank's best interest to keep you as a customer and in your home right now. You will find working with them right now is much different than the stories you might have heard 6+ months ago. After you exhaust every option with your bank first, dealing with attorneys might be a viable option.

There are a number of legitimate options. You should also know that homeowners who have been served a Notice of Default (N. O. D.) have certain protections given to them by the state and federal government to prevent opportunistic companies from taking advantage of families under a lot of stress.

NOOOOoooo!!!!!! First of all, contact your lender and try to negotiate yourself. If you DO decide to use a company, read all paperwork carefully...there are a lot of scams going on right now. Make sure you are not signing over a deed to your home.

Also...you may qualify under the new Housing Recovery Act that takes place 10/1....where the gov't is encouraging lenders to renegotiate mortgages and help keep homeowners in their home. Call me Monday and I will explain....925-824-4877...or look up this new legislation online.
