We've lived here for 7 yrs. & I have paid rent to my ex. who persoanlly paid taxes on this house. Morgage is fully paid. mother, sister and my ex all had partial ownership of house. Mother recently passed away. So i don't know what has transpired since then. My ex didn't even know his mother passed away until he received ...get this... a formal letter 3 months after her death. Tenent who rents garage still was paying monthly rent check to deceased mother. He didn't know she passed either. Tenent receieved letter stating he had to remove contents of garage because of auction. No contact information included on formal letter. Why have I not received this letter?? Is this legal? why wouldn't i be given the option to buy? who should i be contacting? Will my son & I be thrown out on the street?
Sorry to hear about your mother. You hv to contact a real estate attorney to find out the legal way on your problem.
Aria, Gails advice of talking to an attorney is sound advice and checking the public records so you know who actually owns the property is also sound advice.
You can use this site ..http://publicrecords.onlinesearches.com/ .. to see if you can do it online in your area or to obtain contact information
This site...http://www.lsc.gov/map/lscinfo.php ..will help you see if there are free legal assistance in your area that may help you.
I wish you much luck in finding your answers, Dunes
Call an attorney immediately! Contact me offline at Gail@GailGladstone.com if you need a good recommendation.
Aria, I'm sorry you're having a bad time. If you could provide me with the address, I may be able to get you some information from public records. Otherwise, you may want to go to the town hall of your particular township and look up to see if there are any liens or anything else that may help you. It sounds a little bizarre that your ex didn't know about his mom's death for 3 months. I spoke to my mother almost every day or at least once a week. But that's me.
