Sorry to hear about your situation. On the auction letter they will usually state when the house will be auctioned off. Once you receive the letter, count 26 days from the time they sent the letter.
Usually you can forestall the auction by asking them to do a loan modification.
It's not too late.
If you need more info besides what everybody already wrote in here give me a call.

Based on your information, yours situation is one of a financial hardship, depending on your loan amount it migh be in your best interest to sell an avoid a foreclosure to save your credit, if you are upside down with your loan, meaning that you owe more than your house is worth, than it shall be a Short Sale.
Short Sale is when your lender will allowed you to sell your home for less that the loan amount at a market value, this is very common this days, but you need an expert on short sale, I have a team that will do all the negotiation with your lender, please contact me for more information. I am in Whittier
John is right . You need to speak to someone in "Loss Mitigation" at your mortgage company immediately! They may be more helpful than you expect. If you don't get results, you may have to attempt a short sale. Please consult a local Realtor.
Best of luck with everything,
Hi, I sent you a response to your posting earlier today. I spoke to the agent who lives and works in Carson regarding your situation and she would welcome the opportunity to speak with you. She does work with short sales and foreclosures. As I mentioned earlier she is terrific, very caring and will listen to you.
Email me at email@example.com and I can forward to you her information.

In addition to doing what the agents below suggested (consulting with a Realtor) I would also call the mortgage company again and again until I got someone on the telephone who would work with me. Don't give up - keep trying!

I am so sorry to hear about your situation.I just want to let you know you are not the only one in tthis boat. I meet sellers every week that are having similar troubles. So I just don't want you to think you are the only one going through this.
Marina, might I also suggest that you have a conversation with your mortgage company. See what they have to say as well.
