Foreclosure in 01201>Question Details

Tim, Home Buyer in Berkshires

How can I get information about properties as they enter the foreclosure process?

Asked by Tim, Berkshires Tue Mar 11, 2008

I would like to take advantage of a purchase opportunity through a bank before a house gets foreclosed upon.

Hi Tim,

Trulia's search results include foreclosure listings including pre-foreclosures. Check out the link below to view foreclosure listings in the 01201 zip code. When you view the details for a listing you'll see the foreclosure status as either pre-foreclosure, auction, or bank-owned.

It sounds like you are talking about a "short sale". The seller will get less for the property than they owe on the mortgage, but the bank will forgive part of the loan to get it sold rather than go the foreclosure route. In this case the listing is usually handled by a real estate agent. Get a buyer agent with knowledge of short sales to help you, and an attorney, because there is some risk (but not as much as with a foreclosure!)

There are a variety of online sources. is one of the best local services. The Banker and Tradesman is a popular publication, it's $199/year, it has this. Also realtytrac and have this information. The more important thin is what you DO with this information once you have it.

one way is to read the legal notices in the newspaper. Another way is using and doing a search on a specific property, town or perhaps street and see about 'notices' as they're filed with the registry.
