I am looking to pay cash for an inexpensive (okay, cheap...approximately $20k) property in the DFW area to temporarily call home while I recover financially from the economic and housing bust.
Fixers and old properties with character are very attractive to me. I have personally restored homes and have extensive construction experience. Transitional neighborhoods do not bother me (as long as I won't get shot walking to my car). In the past, I've done well purchasing properties in these areas.
I lived in the DFW area years ago, but it's grown dramatically since I moved. That being said, I'm looking for an experienced agent to guide me in my search. I am hopeful that by living humbly for a bit, I'll be able to build a long-term relationship with a Realtor and a profitable real estate portfolio.
Any advice/help in my search would be greatly appreciated.
Have you thought about a joint venture with someone who has matching funds? This was you can get more bang for your bucks. I have several investors friends who have about the same amount of cash as you, and for more info. please contact them at starriggins at aol dot com.
You are in luck! You need to go to the City of Dallas tax foreclosure on July 16, where you'll find properties under $20M.
All the Best!!
You could however keep in mind $20K property would not be safer areas of Dallas

Yes, there are some homes that you can buy down in that range.
Some are listed on MLS, and you're welcome to go to the website below and search for those.
Some simply are not listed because Realtors can't get enough in commission to warrant listing them. Often these are found only by driving around and spotting small signs, especially for sale by owner.
I do have a list of properties that owners are willing to do seller-financing, which may be an alternative for you.
