The local greensheet will help and we also do searches for family on the MLS because we have found families homes that take sec 8 off of the MLS buy looking for key words like goverment vouches condsidered or Sec8 okay.

Again, your counselor can give you a list of properties available. Depending on whether you're DHA or another agency's client, the list will vary. Realtors, despite what Tony Z believes, can see MLS listings that show whether the landlord will accept Section 8 or not, but those listings are not the only ones. Your counselor will have more and you can find other properties in the rack in the waiting room.

Search for your area (Mesquite, TX), and it looks like you've got a lot of houses to choose from. Contact the landlord with your "Happy Sheet", and you should be able to get something.
Most housing agencies also have a private list that homeowners who offer to house section 8 clients can put their addresses on. Your counselor can give you a list of those.
