heard that they would offer a loan with poor credit if your income was good and if you had good rental references. Is that true?

The current criteria is that you must have a credit score of 620 or above. However, there are other products availbe if you intend on purchasing a home. Try talking with your local lender and let them tell you what you need to do in order to get a loan for a home. I can refer you a couple of trusted lenders, if you'd like. Good Luck!
