Gas Furnace Advantages

Asked by lairasamsung, New York, NY Sat May 12, 2012

Natural gas burns far more cleanly than the oil used in oil furnaces. They are also far more efficient, with an average 90 percent AFUE (annual fuel utilization efficiency), using less fuel to heat the air. This number refers to the percentage of energy that is converted to heat (in this case, 90%) and the amount wasted (in this case, 10%). A high AFUE results in less exhaust and no need for a chimney to vent the heated air and fumes.

Natural gas costs less than oil and is far cheaper than electricity, making long-term gas furnace prices more economical than other fuel combustion systems.

First of all, gas is known for being a "warmer" heat than electric. Depending upon the petroleum market, it can also be cheaper than oil and is cleaner too. Depending upon your climate, you can install gas as a "back up" heat in the event that the temperature goes below 40 degrees the gas will kick in; thus saving money and keeping you warmer.
