As all of the answers from all around the country indicate... yes, you do need to have credit to rent.
Normally a landlord and/or rental agency will run a credit check on potential renters... this check is to determine if the potential renter has good credit which indicates that the person pays thier bills on time, etc.... a potential renter with good credit has their "foot in the door" of a rental... whereas a potential renter with bad credit will be "locked out"... There are many reasons that prevent a landlord from discriminating against a potential renter... ethnicity, religion, etc, etc, but bad credit is not one of them...
