Yanique Momd…, Home Buyer in New York, NY

Would I have to be a Florida resident to qualify for the Florida Assist First Time Homebuyer Program?

Asked by Yanique Momdjian, New York, NY Wed Aug 5, 2009

I currently reside in NYC. I lived in Florida a few years ago and would like to move back. I would like to buy a home in the Fort Lauderdale area in the next 6-8 months.

You could possibly eligible if you have not owned a home in the last 3 years. Keep in mind that the federal tax credit of up to $8,000 is only available to first time homebuyers who purchase and close prior to December 1, 2009.

You need to contact one of the lenders to find out. Just go to…
pick Broward county. The next page will give you a list of lenders that is familar with the Florida Assist First Time Homebuyer Program. In the faq, it says anybody that hasn't owned a legal residence in the past 3 years, but nothing about being a Florida resident. A lender familar with the program would know for sure.
