There are two methods to get the accurate property tax for a given property:
1. Internet: many municipalities now provide online access to annual property tax bills. Here in New York City we have the NYC Dept. of Finance website. Nassau County also has a website for property tax access. So your first course of action should be to research the municipality you're interested in to see if they have such a site. Try "Tax Assessor" or "County Tax Clerk" in your search.
2. Visit the County Clerk's office. If you come up with a zero on the internet search (I tried your zip code and couldn't locate anything) then you'll have to do this the old-fashioned way with a personal visit to the tax clerk's office.
It's good that you want to verify the taxes independently; I always tell my clients to do that. You can't trust the listing information to be accurate.
