Good morning Ken - 2009 update - if property is located in Astor on the Volusia County side mileage rate is 19.388 and if in Lake County it is 15.1927 - Astor is an unincorporated area(not a city or town). To this is added the the non ad valorem assesments for fire/rescue and garbage collection of approximately $360.00 per year. Hope this is helpful and please do not hesitate to contact me with any further questions or assistance that you might need - Astor resident since 1994 and love it!

Ken,

It's actually not determined by county. There is a millage rate for each city, and sometimes it even varies within the city. The V.C. Tax Assessors office won't give us any information as to how they determine the millage rate for each city, but you can find out what the rate is, by going to the tax assessors web site. To calculate your taxes, multiply the millage rate times the just value, or if you're purchasing, multiply the millage rate times the purchase price. If you'll be claiming the homestead exemption, you can deduct $50,000 from the value before you do the math. You may also qualify for other exemptions. The tax assessors web site has a list of possibilities as well.

I hope this helps. BTW, I lived in Astor when I was a teenager. We had a home right on the river. IMHO, the St. John's river is the most beautiful in that area. And here's something you can get a kick out of. In 1986, I won Miss Astor. LOL!
