Property tax / transfer tax for adding an owner during refinance... Daly City

Asked by Rgkharrison, Castro Valley, CA Wed Feb 20, 2013

Hoping to refinance my home and add my brother as 50% owner. How will this affect my property tax annually? I've heard of a transfer tax but don't know what it is or how much it would be.

Your property tax shouldn't change because you are adding your brother, but to take the guess work out, check with the county assessor's office.

Yes, the plan is for him on the loan also. He originally was on the loan when we inherited the home but was taken off so we could refi when he did not have credit. I'd like to get him back on now, but am hoping to not have the property taxes raised.
