Looking for a Good Mortgage Broker in Albany, NY area

Asked by Matt, Niskayuna, NY Thu Apr 8, 2010

Hey everyone!

I'm looking for a solid Mortgage Broker in the Capital Region of NY. I would prefer someone who is not associated with a direct lender, but instead can research different loan options from different lenders. (this is what a broker is supposed to do, right?)

I've sent out some feelers that I'm interested in buying a home, and I've received many calls and responses from various direct lenders. I would really like a local broker to speak to and determine the best rate for me, and speak to me frankly about my ability to get a loan. I've been hearing different things from different lenders, and want to speak to someone who's not trying to sell me one specific product and is experienced in the market, the type of professional who knows that if I don't buy right now, I will return in a year when I might be in a better position.

Any recommendations?

Hey Dan, thanks for the response.

as you can tell, I'm a little overwhelmed! It seems like in this market, you mention you might want to buy a house, and realtors & mortgage companies start gunning for your business!

I'm looking for a good broker who can give it to me straight, so I don't have to talk to a bunch of lenders myself and have my credit pulled a whole bunch of times!

Matt, A good resource for this will be your local Realtor. We deal with various lenders all the time and have experience with good ones and bad.
Another alternative is to check out the web. I have a link below to several Albany County loan officers who are members of Active Rain, a real estate blogging community. You can go from this site to their individual blogs and read some of what they are posting to find out about them.
I'm a Realtor and Mortgage Broker, using a good broker can be advantageous to provide a variety of programs and wholesale rates. Best of luck with your purchase.
