Is it a good idea to shop with another lender to compare offers before finalizing a mortgage loan?

You can shop HOWEVER once you provide your SSN it can lower your scores, great speak general terms if you all ready know your "mortgage scores" compare apples to apples with GFE

GFE is not lender approval letter. After you determine which broker have qualification letter of statement.

Most loan officers can give you a quick & dirty GFE based on the info you know about yourself. Credit scores and down payment, ect. (assuming that they can get you approved like the other lender did) If you find a better deal, then that loan officer will take a full application and pull credit. No need to do all of that during shopping though.
This is a LARGE investment.... It would be wise to get the best rate possible.

Let me know if I can answer any follow up questions!!

Absolutely........

May depend on how far you are in the process and what you have paid, and how close you are to closing.
Rates and fees can vary greatly. I normally say start with one, don't pay any fees...then once you get a contract shop around to a couple more.

Have you found the house already?

Hi Kristina!

Great question! It depends on your mid scores. We usually find that one comparison can be beneficial, however, if your midscores are borderline, having your credit pulled could really create a huge hurdle in being able to actually qualify for the loan because your score goes down. I spoke with someone last week who had 3 companies pull their credit, and now it is too low for that reason. My recommendation would be not to go with a company that sends it out to different banks to get a quote, as each bank will pull your credit. Go with a trusted lender who has a history of closing deals on time as well. Your real estate agent will likely have relationships with one or a few. If your not connected with a Realtor in Wylie, I will be out at a listing that way Thursday and would love to meet you and see if I would be a fit for you.
