If i close in 2010, can i claim my 8,000 tax credit with my 2009 taxes?

I'm scheduled to close by April 1st and have heard that you can claim you 8,000 tax credit on your 2009 taxes? is this true? I'd love more info on it!

Absolutely as long as you have a signed contract by Apr. 30th and are closed by June 30th and qualify for a "First Time Home Buyer", which means not had ownership the last 3 years. It's 10% of the price not to exceed $8,000. Your lender should be able to tell you the correct form to use. Good luck
