Most people don't realize that late mortgage payments can look like a foreclosure on your credit whether the bank has taken the house or not. I'm not quite sure if the dispute process would work, but you can try it.

Possibly if it's with a lender who has been consumed by another intentiy maybe they won't respond in the time allotted and....lucky day.

You won't know unless you try. I would definately NOT pay anyone, just do it yourself. I wouldn't count on it helping but stranger things have happened.
