HOW DO I FIND THE TAX ASSESSMENT AND IMPROVEMENTS FOR MY HOME?

Asked by Mamie, Elkhorn, NE Fri Jul 1, 2011

I'D LIKE TO PRESENT AS MUCH 'CLOSING COST' INFORMATION AS I CAN TO MY LENDER; I THINK THE CLOSING COSTS FOR A REFINANCE ARE TOO MUCH. HOW DO I FND THE TAX ASSESSMENT AND IMPROVEMENTS FOR MY HOME?

You can look at your tax assessed value on the Douglas County website. This is public information.

Douglas County Assessors website would be a good place to start.

You can check to see how much your home is valued at http://www.dcassessor.org/valuation
You can check to see how much your property taxes are at: http://webapps.dotcomm.org:8080/TreasTax/ (it's a link from http://www.dctreasurer.org/ )

Do you feel the lender is collecting too much for your property taxes? They verify how much your property taxes are by the appraisal and the title company doing the refinance confirms as well, so the information is usually accurate, but it doesn't hurt to confirm on your own.
