What are some good, new restaurants around Petco Park?

Asked by California Mortgage Broker, Oceanside, CA Fri May 11, 2007

I go to the Gaslamp about once a month for Padres games. Can you tell me some of the new restaurants where you've had a pleasurable experience?

Bring your appetite, wallet and fun company to McCormick & Schmick's at 675 L Street--one block west of Petco Park.

Within a 3 block radius, you have Basic bar which is a quick pizza and drink place with a fun ambiance. One block north from there, you can visit Soleil @ K at the base of the Marriot or go up to the roof top and have drinks and appetizers overlooking the Park. If you are in the mood for steak, there is the Palm restaurant.

Hello,

I have been living downtown for 8 years now in East Village a few blocks from Petco. Some of my new favorite restaurants (2014) which are walking distance from Petco are:

1. Rare Form. Neighborhoods (the beer bar on 8th and g) sister restaurant. Connected to the ballpark.

2. ACME. This is owned by the owners of cafe chloe. It's a soul food restaurant and the food is amazing.

3. Lucky Liu's. Great chinese food.

4. Werewolf. Owned by the waterfront bar in Little Italy. Great food and drinks.

Not new but still my go to restaurants for padres games:
1. Oceanaire for their happy hour. 1 dollar oysters and cheap appetizers.
2. Flemmings. $6 dollar amazing burger and 6 dollar apps/cocktails.
3. Barley Mash. Good food always crowded but good vibe.

Feel free to email me if you ever want any great restaurant recommendations I'm a foodie!

Basic Pizza is a very good call. Another spot that is a little nicer and fairly new is Sear Sucker: http://www.searsucker.com/

BASIC PIZZA is one of my favorites...Ultra thin crust, and it is served on it's own baking sheet.

Get there early if there is a PETCO event.

The Fleetwood on at 7th & J. Excellent food and atmosphere and right across from the ballpark. I highly recommend it. Try the steak... to die for.

I ate at a place today for a late breakfast, early lunch, which was really good. It is Richard Walkers Pancake House. Kind of a long line, but it moved fairly quickly and was worth it!

For seafood try The Oceanaire. Their chef is featured on this season's Top Chef TV show. Great seafood!

For a good atmosphere, good food and affordable prices try Nicki Rotten's on Fifth. Another great place is the Gaslamp Strip Club. It's pricier, and you have to cook your own food (part of the charm), but it is a fun place, particularly if your with a few of your friends.
