Living in Houston means that you can see the Houston Rodeo one day and a performance at the Houston Grand Opera the next. Houston offers the Houston Ballet, the Alley Theatre (an equity theater), and the Houston Symphony in addition to HGO. Houston is a center for visual art with the Museum of Fine Arts Houston and its sculpture garden offering a full survey of art through the ages. The Contemporary Art Museum presents new artists on an ongoing basis. Finally, the Menil Collection offers a range from tribal art, through surrealist works, to contemporary work. Festivals of all kinds throughout the year tempt visitors with music, food, and crafts. The International Festival will feature China this year and is held in downtown Houston the week-ends of April 21 and 28. Downtown Houston clubs offer jazz, music, and food, but everyone has his/her favorite salsa club, dessert gallery, or sushi bar.

Houston is in a very flat part of country. If you like scenic hills, beaches and/or wooded countryside, Houston is not for you. The climate is very hot and the summer very humid, making outdoor activities limited more than half the year. This leaves most activities limited to indoors during the summer. Hunting is quite the thing in the surrounding rural areas. The region is fast food based and does not have a large assortment of special restaurants like many cities. Even fewer are the mom and pop type restaurants. Most are chain or corporate restaurants. The locale is heavy on alcohol consumption for enjoyment, I suppose since the water is poor. Downtown Houston offers some entertainment, theater, museums, major rodeo once a year and night life, limited by traffic sometimes. The region is an expanse and covers a very large geographical area. Driving anywhere is a must. Zoning appears non existent in many areas so spots are generally found by word of mouth. Costs in Houston are lower than most cities making the dollar go farther. If you are strictly an urban dweller, you may find Houston to your tastes.

Just about anything you want can be found in Houston except maybe downhill skiing. Check out the Texaplex videos (including the one on Houston) is a good start. Outdoors, indoors, culture, music, art, sports, hobbies, clubs, churches, dining, entertainment, for all budgets. You name it and its likely here.

Any kind of cultural event for all ages to night life for everyone, you can find it all in Houston. From the Houston Symphony, ballet, theater and museums to Houston Rodeo, Herman Park Zoo, sporting events, night clubs, fine dining and parades, you can find just what you arelooking for. Houston is only 50 miles from the Gulf coast at Galveston for even more water sports and cultural events such as the annul Mardi Gras, Blessing of the Fleet to Dickens on the Strand in December.

The inner city is booming with regards to the social scene. Galas? A quick drink at your favorite bar? A night in the Museum District? Whatever you desire, Houston has it all. World class Symphony, Ballet, and Opera along with all the on and off Broadway shows gives you the ability to never have to travel to another city.

Eating out is a way of life in Houston.....That's probably why we voted the fatest city in the US several years ago. Barbecue here is fantastic.... Continental cuisine at places like Brennan's is great and the is the home of New Southwest cooking.

The social scene in Houston can only be described as fabulous. We have many theatres, opera, ballet and symphony. Many 5 star restaurants as well as small intimate ethnic restaurants. There is a pro football team, The Texans, a pro baseball team, the Astros and a pro basketball team, the Rockets. All of our venues are state of the art - air conditioned for your comfort.
