Great mix of restaurants, lots of coffee shops and bakeries, and a great small community feel. Eventually you get to know everybody. You'll eventually meet a number of second and third generation residents.

Mill Valley has a local theatre company, an annual production called the Mountain Play in the outdoor ampitheater on Mt. Tam, a musical venue with top name acts and many local musicians who drop in to play, and great restaurants. The square in downtown Mill Valley is busy from morning coffee to afternoon chess games to evening strollers. The downtown is the scene of holiday events, the internationally acclaimed Mill Valley Film Festival, annual wine and food event, and the fall arts festival.

Mill Valley is a bit of a sleepy town. For big nights out, head to SF. The best museums are in SF, too. But Mill Valley is not light on restaurants and quieter nightlife. We have the famous Sweetwater club, where you might run into Bonnie Raitt or the remaining Grateful Dead members showing up to give an impromptu performance; regulars have reported more recent sightings of performers such as Alanis Morisette and Rob Thomas showing up spontaneously. There is a comedy club across the street where Robin Williams, Dana Carvey or other local talent might just show up.

Mill Valley has a very artistic past and that serves as our cultural foundation and transcends the last decade of colonization of professionals and their families. We are a very progressive, generally well education, keyed-in and politically active community. If you are looking for night-life you will find an interesting scene surrounding the sweatwater, but generally your best bet is 20 minutes away in San Francisco proper.
