The social scene is young and exciting. There a many bars and nightclubs with live music for established acts (Barbes) and open mics for up-and-comming performers (living Room Lounge, Bar Four) The MadArts gallery on 18th Street offers life drawing classes on Wednesday evening. The Gallery Players on 14th Street is a top-flight off-broadway Theater.

The social scene is varied, mirroring the people who live in the neighborhood. On the one hand, you have the families with children, who connect around school and their children's activities. I raised two kids here, and the web of connections just grew and grew as the kids got older. Even now, as they go to school in Manhattan, we still socialize with the parents of their schoolmates from elementary school. On the other hand, Fifth Ave has bars and more music, which appeals to a younger, and sometimes childless, crowd. Southpaw's, down near Flatbush, is known as a great venue for bands. Barbe, on the other hand, just a a small rioom behind the bar where world music and Jazz gets played. Prospect Park, a few blocks freom 7th Ave, is a huge magnet, especiallty in the warm weather. Note that certain areas of the park are Wi Fi hotspots, a plus.
