Would it make sense to add laminate floor to the entire first floor?

THERE are some GREAT laminated floors HOWEVER many home buyers hate the noise when a person walks over the floors, hardwoods are perhaps a better option.

wood floors sell over carpet - period, hands down. They will not increase your selling price, but will get a home sold faster. Hardwoods do better than laminate and aren't much more expensive or harder to put in. Laminates do not do well in rooms that can have a lot of spilled water unless you do ones that are very good laminates - when water gets between the layers they swell and the floor is destroyed. Hardwoods, however do not do well in rooms with standing water on the floor either because the water can damage the wood if it sits (black rings and stains that have to be sanded out) - that is why you tpically see tile in the kitchen and bathrooms and the wood or laminates in the rest of the house. With laminates you can have ones that look like tile, slate, wood or a variety of finishes, with wood, you can only have a wood look. Other flooring to consider is bamboo
