I have an extra bed room and a full bath on the first floor of my house. The bed room and the bath room are separated by a a 3x3 hallway. Is it a good idea to convert the bed room to a small suite by adding drywall and a glass door (with blinds) on the inside of the door? The way I see it, when we have visitors and friends coming over, we could open the door and the bath room could still be used by everyone. Once the door is closed and the blinds are drawn, it becomes a samll suite. Is it a good idea to proceed with the project?
If this is what you would like to do, for your own use, it's a great idea. I would not do it, for a home sale. It won't hurt either, but if you're planning to sell your home soon, there might be more important places to invest.
Sounds like a great idea, especially if you have overnight guests somewhat often. :)
I will agree that the trend of a suite has become more popular lately. That being said, I see nothing wrong with going through with your project if you would like.
I think this is a great idea. I work with buyers and this trend of bedroom suites has become increasingly common in higher-end homes and new construction. If it's functional for your family, then chances are it'll appeal to other families. It's important to choose modifications that have universal or at least widespread appeal. I think yours fits the bill, and I think you'll be pleased with the results both for your own use and when it comes time for you to sell.
Alan,
It sounds like you have given this considerable thought.
Necessity is the mother of invention. If it's going to work for you and serve your family needs...go for it.
Many families search for bedroom/suites great idea OR when a family has a teenager (enough stated about teens I have one LOL).... speak with buyer agent.
