There are a few great resources around. I think it is best to contact your Community Resource Officer or CRO at the police department. Just call the main non-emergency number and ask to be connected to the CRO. They’re normally very aware of the good and bad areas of the area and can normally give you local statistics. You can also check out which provides stats based on the FBI uniform crime reports. You might also visit the FBI stats site at Another place to checkout is . Hope this is of you to you.

The crime rate is a matter of public record and as a Realtor and wife of a 20 year police officer, I privide this information to any of my clients who ask for it. Why? Because it is my responsibility. I NEVER tell them it's a "bad" neighborhood. That's for the client to decide.

However, if they don't know, it's only because they don't know where to look. Finding the appropriate resources to help you in your search for information is every Realtor's responsibility! It's not for me to decide that you are uncomfortable with X number of homicides, or even X number of dog barking violations...that's for the client to decide.

Hiding behind Fair Housing and a fear of being sued is no excuse for irresponsible agency. You give the client the information...let THEM decide! Check out the site below and decide for yourself. Straight from the horses mouth!

I would check with you local police department to check on the crime rate of the community you are considering. Also, ask them to back out the white collar crime. As you know we Realtor's are unable to answer this kind of question. Good luck.

REALTORs cannot answer this question due to strict legal guidelines. We cannot "steer" a client to or away from any property due to it's neighborhood. General crime stats are available here on Trulia. Just go to the "Real Estate Guides" tab up top and type in your zip codes. You should also check with the local police department of the areas you are considering. They would be happy to help, and are probably the best and most accurate resource. Best of luck and happy hunting!
