Laura,
Not sure if you were able to find someone to work with so If I can be of any assistance please let me know.
Going to Greatschools.com is a great source and that is what I used when moving. Although I didn't get the school district I wanted it did help a lot to pick the areas I wanted. Please feel free to also log onto my website and start searching for yourself or contact me directly and I can set you up on alerts to let you know when homes become available in your area. I look forward to working with you if you haven't already chosen a broker. My website is http://janicemaynard.yourkwagent.com/ or http://www.unioncountyhomes4sale.com Please feel free to search on your own or email me your specific criteria and I will search for you.

lguz,

Good morning. I would recommend that you talk directly to a Realtor about some of your wants and needs and budget. Charlotte offers a great variety of affordable housing and areas of Charlotte are all a little distinct from one another depending on what you are looking for in a life style and commute time.

I made the move eight years ago with four kids in tow that were about the same ages as yours and did a lot fo research on the areas before I moved. I can help give you some insight as to areas and type of homes as well as links to various schools in the areas you would be looking to help you make a decision that is best suited for you and your children.

Feel free to either e-mail me or call me at 704-519-7895.

Good morning, Ms Guz
I think you will find many decent neighborhoods throughout Charlotte that have good affordability and where your children can get a good education. You may want to read the Trulia Real Estate Blog "What are the best Schools in Charlotte?" to help you decide what schools would work for you. Ultimately, your monthly income and your need to be close to a particular location for work, services, etc, are going to drive your decision. Our goal would be to help you evaluate the housing options that would maximize your quality of life and housing purchase within whatever budget you have. If you appreciate an answer, please give thumbs up. For the most helpful answer, please say thanks with a best answer click.

Interview some agents from the Find an Agent tab above. Hire one of the agents that you interview and then discuss your housing wants and needs with that agent.

Best of Luck.

Hello Lguz,

I would say that you get the most bang for your buck in the University area. I suggest renting in Davis Lake or Highland Creek or any of the subdivisions off Prosperity Church Rd. There are quite a few affordable apartments in the area too. Be sure to check out the University YMCA while you are here because you will find plenty of activities for children.

Matthews and Mint Hill may give you the small town atmosphere that you may want as well. There is less affordable housing in those small towns, but many parents like the schools. Mint Hill has a more rural feel because it is less developed.

If you are willing to drive more to work, then you have options in nearby Lincoln County, Cabarrus County, Union County, York County, Iredell County. All of this will also depend on your budget, desire for convenience, and availability of current housing where you are looking.

Wishing you success,
Robin
