The Portland Metropolitan Area is a great place. The best thing to do is visit and experience Portland first hand. There are great parks and entertainment venues. If you have friends and family in the area that is ideal, they can show you around from the perspective of an actual resident. If you already have particular areas of the city picked out then contact the local law enforcement agencies’s and ask them for the stats for their area.

If you go to CrimeReports.com you can see what crimes have been reported. PDX pushes their data there as does my city.

They are absolutely right, PortlandMaps is the best for crime maps. I'd also recommend using the map search on my website to find out all kinds of lifestyle choices in an easy to use program, find shops, schools, police stations, and homes for sale - all at the same time.

If you'd ask my professional opinion I would advise you to get to http://www.portlandmaps.com and take a look at the statistics provided by the city of Portland. Now, if you don’t mind, I would offer my personal opinion to you as someone who lives in this particular area for almost 13years. the fast access to different parts of town and different ways to get around other than the free-ways, the proximity of shopping centers or older vibrant neighborhoods of Portland, many other things of interest as parks or restaurants or theaters or museums or the airport, easy access to public transportation make this particular zip code an attractive area. And, I’ve almost forgot the fresh farm produces you can get them here all summer long, without driving more than 1-2 miles. And I feel really safe walking my dog or just simply walking around in the neighborhood even late at night (again, it’s just my personal opinion). I hope this will help you deciding. And if I can be of any help please give me a call at 503-984-3485. All the best.

Tom is correct, you can check crime stats by going to Portland Maps or simply calling the precinct in a particular neighborhood of interest. My personal experience is that walking the streets of downtown Portland, even at night, feels very safe to me. Of course, I'm aware/focused/resolute when doing so. I try to stay on lit streets...you know, use good common sense! The downtown area has done an excellent job of including windows and, thus, light spilling out on the streets from ground level businesses. This gives you confidence when enjoying downtown night life.

Go to http://www.portlandmaps.com and look at crime stats. Portlander's tend to report all little crimes unlike other cities so you can look at neighborhoods and they will give you a breakdown of maybe 20 different kinds of crimes and when you have 1 or 2 or 10 in a 2-3 sq mile area is that bad or good? The are better parts of town in every city with very little crime and home prices reflect that so you name your price and I can see what shows up? Portland is very safe overall in my opinion as a native Oregonian born and raised here. Good luck. Tom Inglesby, Broker

Stephen, our current leader is a useless puppet. Our entire society is responsible for crime. Our moral values have dropped into the toilet and no one does anything about it. The media blasts our children day and night with filth. Male erection medicine, vibrators, etc advertising has now been dragged up into the day time instead of only late night. The radio stations no longer delete foul language. Everything, everywhere is SEX SEX SEX. CLothing has to be SEXY. Have you read a Seventeen magazine for girls? I saw an article called 'How to kiss your boyfriend to get him physically excited'.

Rap and other music glorifies beating women, doing crugs and killing. We refuse to stop drugs entering the country. We could EASILY do it with our militery, instead of sending troops to insure we have our OIL INTEREST secure. The war , if you can call it a 'war', thats been going on now for years is MURDER. Our government should be judged for murder for each of our children who have died there. We could use military to make our borders safe and also stop all the growing of weed in government lands, and meth labs, etc. We send millions to countries like Bolivia just to keep them from growing poppies. They grow it anyway! We could use that money for our own citizens. I could rant about this for DAYS here. Bottom line is we need to overthrow this government It originally was to be of the people, for the people, by nthe people---but now its US and THEM. Out of control. We are in moral decay and only God can save us now.

Sorry, couldnt resist. Take my wife---please.

Oregon is a right to carry firearms state. Consequently (many believe) that the crime is lower her per thousand people than no carry states. Oregon doesnt have a lot of violent crime but it has a LOT of car theft and auto break ins due to the drug connection between here in the Mexican border straight down interstate 5. That and meth heads needing to steal for a fix. Lotsa meth and heroine here but not as bad as many big cities. Im originally from Calif with many relatives all over Cal, Louisiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Mississippi, New York and Arizona.
I feel safer here than many cities in those states. You have pockets of gang on gang violence here but its isolated. Just get a great car alarm and watch certain parts of the city and you will love it here. Hey---play a dollar slot for me and say my name while its running! If you win I get half. If you lose, I'll take $100 off my commission when you use me to buy a house, lol.
I gave Melina a thumbs up for her crime link.

Real estate agents are not allowed to give you crime statistics....your best source of information is the local law enforcement agencies.
