When it comes to any safety/crime related issues, it's always best to contact the local authorities with all your questions, hear all there is to hear firsthand. If unfamiliar with the area(s) do revisit more than once and at different times of day, possibly chat with locals/neighbors. Real estate professionals are prohibited from steering, enticing a buyer to purchase/rent, or not, in specific neighborhoods.

The best way to research crime rates is online at a place such as this:

This is always a difficult question for real estate professionals to answer. The question "How safe is this area?" is pretty subjective. What may be safe to me may feel like a warzone to you. In cases like this I always advise my clients to contact the local police department and get the most recent crime statistics for the area. This normally helps to paint the picture for them in black and white and allows them to make an informed decision. Hopefully that helps you out in your search.

this is a question best suitable for your own research. As agents we must be really carful how we go about answering questions and this could be seen as one of those questions. Check your local crime blotter, news station or google it.
