There are crime statistics listed at the police department website. http://www.wichita.gov....then go to Police Department. There will be TONS of information on stats, your beat officer, and different crime prevention programs!

When it comes to any safety/crime related issues, it's always best to contact the local police department with all your questions, hear all there is to hear firsthand. If unfamiliar with the area(s) do revisit more than once and at different times of day, possibly chat with locals/neighbors. Real estate professionals are prohibited from steering, enticing a buyer to purchase/rent, or not, in specific neighborhoods.

Another great website that I really like to use is city-data.com. You can see crime rates, population and a bunch of other useful information about nearly every city in the U.S.

There are several ways to find out about crime in a neighborhood. Go to Kansas.com, which is the Wichita Eagle newspaper website. Go to the "news" tab, then "Crime & Courts" tab. On that site, you can search the Wichita Crime Stats. You can also check out the website for the Wichita Police Department: http://www.wichitapolice.com or Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office: http://www.sedgwickcounty.org/SHERIFF or Kansas Bureau of Investigations: http://www.accesskansas.org/kbi.

On the police department site, it will show the names and photos of the neighborhood police officers assigned to each area. You can contact the officer to find out more information.

You will also want to check out the KBI site for the offenders registry: Search the Kansas Bureau of Investigation's Offender Registry at http://www.accesskansas.org/kbi/offender_registry/

Driving through the neighborhood you are interested in purchasing, will also give you an idea of the activity. Pick different times of the day and different days of the week, to cruise through.
