You would first want to talk to a lender who offers the program - Rodney Mason is in Atlanta and offers them (he is on Trulia) and has a very good grasp of what is needed to qualify, and can also advise you if there are other programs that may be better. His profile is: http://www.trulia.com/profile/rodneymason/ and he can go through a full pre-approval process.
You'd then (or simultaneously) want to talk to real estate agents to see which one fits best with your needs & personality.
Unfortunately, you may have miskeyed your question in to zip code 95125, so your question is showing up in San Jose, California, rather than in Georgia.
As for finding a home for $1000, that's a pretty tall order and one that is unlikely to be fulfilled in any part of the country or the world--particularly because land (without a home on it) is far more pricey than $1000, and the cost of home is far in excess of even $1000. If there were homes available for this price, almost every one of those homes would be snapped up by investors in large quantities. You can look on this site, http://www.Realtor.com to see homes for sale in and around your area and then gauge how to purchase a home that fits your needs. I might also suggest going to talk with a local loan officer or mortgage broker to see the prices of homes that you can afford and the monthly payments you can qualify to pay.
