Your best resource for crime statistics is to contact the local police or sherrifs department. Some counties will have a web site where you can get the information. You can also ask a Realtor to provide you with a neighborhood report from the MLS.

Ask someone who lives in this area, like me! We have a Nextdoor Neighborhood site. We care about our neighborhood and this area is best for 50 to 80 year old's because the schools are not great. There are pockets of really nice well built homes here. I have lived here for a year now, and I have seen retired couples holding hands, we wave to each other, and we love it here!

Your agent should be able to give you a full statistics and neighborhood report for the area. Any member of the MLS has access to a program called Realist which can pull information from a variety of sites for you and compile it into one report. But checking online is usually the best bet. Don't forget, every area has crimes, especially random ones. If you are considering moving someplace you are not very familiar with, I recommend you chat with the neighbors and spend some time checking out the neighborhood during the evening one day, morning another and around lunchtime, then on the weekend. Stop and speak with any neighbors that are around. This will give you a gauge of the atmosphere around the home better than any reports.
