When it comes to any safety/crime related issues, it's always best to contact the local authorities with all your questions, hear all there is to hear firsthand. If unfamiliar with the area(s) do revisit more than once and at different times of day, possibly chat with locals/neighbors. Real estate professionals are prohibited from steering, enticing a buyer to purchase/rent, or not, in specific neighborhoods. http://www.neighborhoodscout.com/

Here are two links that will help you with Long Beach crime statistics. The other thing that you could do is work with a Broker that sells in Long Beach. They will be able to tell you more about a certain area or neighborhood. Feel free to take a look at my Trulia profile and call me if you have further questions.

In my opinion the best source for crime Stats is the local law enforcement agency.

Contact he Long Beach Police Department.

GO TO A SITE CALLED http://WWW.HOMEFACTS.COM
AND PUNCH IN ANY ADDRESS U ARE INTERESTED IN...INCLUDING IF U ALREADY OWN A HOME.
THIS WILL GIVE U CRIME STATISTICS, SEX OFFENDERS, IF IT IS NEAR AIRPORTS, PRISONS, DEMOGRAPHICS, ETC...
BUT TAKE IT WITH A GRAIN OF SALT... GOOD TO DRIVE AROUND AREAS U ARE INTERESTED IN AND SEE WHAT IS GOING IN AND OUT OF RESTAURANTS, DRY CLEANERS, GROCERY STORES, DRIVING UP AND DOWN THE STREETS ETC.
ASK NEIGHBORS OR PEOPLE IN THE AREA....
SOME TIMES PEOPLE THINK A NEIGHBORHOOD IS BAD..AND IT REALLY ISN'T.
USE YOUR JUDGEMENT TOO.

My colleagues have given you some good resources (neighborhoodscout, com and LBPD), but I will echo that a local Realtor will be able to tell you what's behind the statistics. Many, like me, are part of the Community Watch for their neighborhood and have contacts or relationships with their local division of the LBPD. They know the stories, the people, the history of the neighborhoods.

As a 30 year old, you're also probably interested in what else the neighborhood has to offer beyond a low crime rate and how you can get the most checkmarks on your wish list for your home.

I'm always happy to help, I'm passionate about Long Beach.

Hi am a local realtor living in Long Beach. Most of the city is quite great with low crime. I would suggest looking into East side of Long Beach closer to California state university long beach (CSULB). Please contact me for more information or stop by my website if you would like to view some tips for buying a home.

Hello,

Neighborhood Scout is a great resource, check out the following link: http://www.neighborhoodscout.com/ca/long-beach/crime/

Long Beach is a big city with so many distinct neighborhoods. Most of the city is quite safe. Anything in East Long Beach is safe. Downtown by the coast is very nice! Best of Luck to You!
