You probably want to ask relatives, friends and co-workers, read the newspapers, follow the local news on TV (online ?) contact the local sheriff & police department and ideally visit the potential areas frequently to learn which areas you feel most at home in. You might also consider asking people on facebook and twitter if you don’t know anyone in Phoenix. (Not sure if attorneys can answer this either but if they can that might be a good resource as well) Good luck!
Unfortunately, agents can't provide that info without crossing boundaries involving Fair Housing laws. Additionally, what one person might be comfortable with, another might not. If you are still in Pittsburgh, it is understandable that you are looking for this info prior to a move. The best way to be comfortable is to drive through an area and see if it works for you. If you can't do that, then you can do additional research for crime stats here: http://www.phoenix.gov/police/crista1.html.
If you know someone in the area already, you should talk to them about this as well. Best of luck!
