While the Police Department is a good resource of crime statistics, statistics do not always tell the true story. I have personally asked the Escondido Police Department to separate the residential and commercial crime statistics. They say they can't do that. Every bad check, shop lifting etc. that happens in the an area close to commercial properties is reported as part of the statistics. If what you want to know is how safe is this area, knock on doors and ask current residents how they perceive the area. As a former resident of Old Escondido for 14 years, I always felt safe and had no crime related problems.

I usually find the police departments very helpful and a wealth of information, especially with crime statistics. Hope this helps!!
