You will get the best answer from the area Police Department just stop by there and ask for more information about the crime statistics.

Cheryl has posted a site that tracks national data. A client of mine has blogged about his experience and a program he created http://www.teamten.com/lawrence/projects/sfcrime and here is a link to the SFPD crime map
SFPD has instituted CompStat, a systemic data driven approach to police response. The tracking of data has improved because of it. Crocker Amazon is in the Taraval District and if you'd like you can subscribe to the Captains e-mail blast.
Please remember that when you look at this data all you see is a list of bad stuff. I advise my clients to take the time to go to the area at different times of the day and night to see for themselves how they feel.
YOu can also form a neighborhood watch group in an area whewre thre have been quality of life crimes.
Here is a link to the San Francisco Police Department crime stats website- http://sf-police.org/index.aspx?page=1618. You can search any address as well as select time frames and distances from the selected address.
However, I think it is important to look beyond these statistics. Talk to the folks at the local substation for context.
